Digital mammography offers a broader dynamic range and higher contrast resolution than film-screen technology and is increasingly being used in hospitals and outpatient facilities nationwide. Digital mammography uses computers and specially designed image detectors to convert the x-ray signal into an electronic form that can produce an image to be displayed on high-resolution monitors and can be stored digitally for future use.
Author Joyce Helena Brusin, M.F.A., explains the difference between four of the specialized and complex equipment systems and the diagnostic techniques unique to each. Learn how to identify when digital mammography is superior to film-screen mammography.
