This quiz is the companion to the Directed Reading article “Burnout in Radiation Therapy: Causes, Concerns and Prevention”.
Many researchers have investigated burnout, emotional exhaustion, and job satisfaction in health care workers, but studies on the effects of burnout in radiation oncology professionals have barely scratched the surface. Evidence suggests a correlation between staff burnout and medical errors, job satisfaction, and employee turnover. If true, decreasing burnout in radiation therapists could improve patient safety and the work environment. This article explores the adverse effects of burnout on radiation therapists and radiation oncology departments, and describes factors that potentially can prevent burnout. Although the article’s content is specific to radiation therapists, it can apply to all those who work in radiation oncology including medical dosimetrists.
